“I always did love it when men shined blinding lights in my eyes. Especially when that special someone is a police officer. Honestly, it’s like all of my fantasies have come true in this exact moment.”

“Cut the crap Santiago, you’ve been a smart-ass all afternoon and I’m tired of it.”

“Easy Officer, you get any closer I’d think you were trying to kiss me.”

Officer Echols slams his hand on the table. “Stop playing around, I know you did it. You’ve got no alibi, a motive, and your fingerprints are all over the murder weapon.”

“Looks like you’ve got an open and shut case. One problem.” I lean forward with each word “I. Didn’t. Do. It.”

Echols’ eyes bore into me as he sits. “Just admit it. You killed your husband.”

“You say I did, I say I didn’t. Tomato, tomahto. It looks like we’re going to have to solve this little disagreement.”

“You know what, it doesn’t even matter. Your blood will tell us the truth. When you bleed black as night you’re going away for a long time.” Echols snaps his fingers and a medic enters. The medic grabs my arm and prepares the syringe. While stating our nation’s pledge, the medic pulled the stopper and my blood filled the container.

“Evil stains your soul, and darkens your blood. For the good of Matrea, we must remain pure.” You could cut the tension in the room as everyone registers my blood. The purest white I’ve ever seen. It looks like I haven’t even told a lie in my time. I can barely contain my smile as I watch Officer Echols scramble for a non-existent explanation.

“I apologize, Mrs. Santiago, we offer you our condolences.” Echols just barely chokes out as he uncuffs me.

“Well, it was great getting to know you, gentlemen. I hope that we meet again soon. Maybe next time under better circumstances.” I grab my bag and make a break for the door. As I sit in my car I let out a deep breath and rub the scar mark from the syringe. I have absolutely no idea how my blood was that clean. Based on my recent interrogation, I would say that bashing your husband’s head in counted as a crime. It looks like I have immunity… let’s see how much fun we can have.
